Ahjo is maintained by Art Center Ahjo Association, founded in 1997.

There are eight members in the Board of Directors.

Joensuu Artists' Association

The purpose of Joensuu Artists’Association is to create new kind of interaction between the audience, artists and various forms of art, and serve as a positive gathering force for professionals and non-professionals of different art forms.

Joensuu Artists’ Association gathers together North Carelian visual artists, both non-professional and professional as well as supporters and friends of art. It also works to improve the social and professional position of artists and tries to improve their working conditions. The Association arranges exhibitions, courses and workshops, takes part in the cultural debate and cultural life of the area, maintains the oldest art rental service in Finland (founded in 1971) and sells the works of local artists.

Gallery Kohina and Art Rental Shop of Joensuu Artist Association are situated in Taitokortteli (Koskikatu1), on the second floor of a red brick building. The office is in Art Centre Ahjo, next to Joensuu Art Museum.

Ukri ry

Ukri ry is North Carelian authors and writers’ association, which was founded in Paihola in 1956. At the moment there are over 200 members, 50 of whom have published a work of their own. About twenty of the members are professional writers.

Sanaratas is a department of Ukri ry. Its aim is to promote writing and reading as a hobby in North Carelia and create a permanent network for this activity.

Regional Dance Center

Regional Dance Center operates in Eastern Finland, in the regions of North Carelia, Kuopio and southern Savo.

The Centre serves to advance dance art and its aim is to increase the employment of professional dancers, promote the accessibility and reachability of dance and to increase public awareness of it. In all the three regions the Centre serves to support dance performances made by both local and guest dancers. It also supports courses and professional meetings that are arranged in the area and informs the public about dance happenings.

A festival of new dance and improvisation called Yksin sateessa? (Lonely In the Rain?)is arranged in Joensuu annually.

Yksin sateessa? -festival was held from November 21st to 22nd.
